What To Do After An Accident

If you’ve been in a car accident, there are several steps you should take to ensure your safety and protect your legal rights. STOP, it’s against the law to leave the scene of an accident.

  1. Check for injuries: If anyone is injured, call 911 immediately. Even if you feel fine, it’s important to get checked out by a medical professional.
  2. Call the police: Even if the accident is minor, it’s important to call the police so they can document the scene and any damage to the vehicles.
  3. Gather information: Get the contact and insurance information from the other driver(s) involved in the accident, as well as the names and contact information of any witnesses. Take pictures of the damage to all vehicles involved and the surrounding area, if possible.
  4. Report the accident: Contact your insurance agent as soon as possible to report the accident.

Accidents usually happen due to honest mistakes. So, there is no need to get harsh or violent while speaking to the other driver even if he/she is in the wrong. It’s important to remember to stay calm, and be honest and straightforward when speaking with police, insurance adjusters, and other involved parties. By following these steps, you can protect yourself and your legal rights after a car accident.
